Pigmenta is a tablet app designed for painters who need a responsive, intuitive canvas without the clutter common in creative tools. Many artists struggle with overcomplicated interfaces, lag during detail work, and inconsistent brush behavior.
The goal was to create a painting environment that feels natural, stays out of the way, and adapts to different styles—from quick sketches to detailed layered compositions.

I studied how painters work on tablets: zooming, adjusting colors, switching brushes, and undoing quickly. Existing apps often break flow with cluttered interfaces.
I explored ways to keep tools accessible but unobtrusive, treating the screen as a flexible, distraction-free studio table.

Prototypes tested brush performance, gestures, and tool layouts. Painters preferred instant response and minimal interruption, so tool switching became gesture-driven and color mixing was simplified.
The workspace adapted for both left- and right-handed users, and each iteration focused on removing friction and maintaining painting rhythm.
