Overview

This project was about designing a smartwatch app for athletes who push themselves to the edge: climbers, snowboarders, mountain bikers. The goal was simple but critical: give them the data they need, in real time, without ever slowing them down.

We focused on creating glanceable metrics, instinctive alerts, and sport-specific dashboards that work in high-risk, high-speed situations.

Exploration

We observed commuters and hikers in their daily routines to see where current devices failed.

Commuters struggled with juggling schedules, tickets, and phones, while hikers needed hands-free access to location, weather, and safety info.

The insight was clear: information has to be instantly accessible, notifications need to be subtle yet effective, and the interface must adapt to different contexts without overloading the user.

Iterations

The first prototype overloaded the screen with steps, schedules, maps, and weather.

The second simplified it into glanceable cards with subtle haptic alerts.

The final version added context-aware dashboards for city commutes or hiking, refined through field testing for readability, color cues, and timing.
